DHPT Trail Workday

We will be meeting at the old Bruening Garage near the Luge trail/Palisades Park lower gravel parking lot. We will meet by the DHPT trailer at 6:30 p.m.

Bring rakes, hand-saws, and/or clippers. We will be breaking off into small groups to hit up as many of the mountain bike trails we can to remove sticks.

This is a GREAT opportunity for folks who are nervous to attend a workday, because there will not be dirt work involved- just stick removal. Perfect for ALL AGES! Bring the kiddos!

Grooming Updates 3/1

You can find trail updates over on our Facebook page. Kruse went out on 2 different evenings and groomed the following:

2/27 a.m.
I got out grooming tonight (2/26). Public television, North Forty, Gunnar, East and West pines, Upper and Lower Little Bighorn, and First Right are all done. There’s some crazy layers of snow out there. Powder on top of hard pack, then a crusty ice layer with powder on top of that. No guarantees how well they’ll set up. Word of advice. Don’t fall off the trail...we might not find you till the time trials!

2/27 p.m.
I hit Public television, Gunnar, and the Pines again. I also hit Fred’s, The Luge, Old Randy’s, Upper Ice Cave, Stairway to Heaven/Boa, and Rocky Road. Should be a pretty good loop. Dunnings trails looked pretty good considering I hadn’t done any grooming on that side. There’s been a fair amount of snowshoeing going on over there.

Friday and Saturday look like decent days to hit up the trails. There will be tough spots where the snow is soft due to the snow depth, and getting to close to the edge may cause you to fall through. But a tough day of fat biking is better than a good day at work...right?!?

We totally appreciate folks who go out and hike with snowshoes! It definitely keeps the groomed trail happy and healthy vs. hiking in boots and poking holes into the trail. It can also help with grooming if we have too much snow to groom easily.

It's also frowned upon to hike and break though groomed ski trails.

The image off to the side is a great reminder for all of us on groomed trail etiquette!

If you're curious on snowshoes, you can rent a pair at Decorah Bicycles for $10.00- and that gives you 24 hours of use!

2019 Updates

The new year is upon us and soon, the riding season will be as well! We have some DHPT updates to pass on.

Carlson Property updates are very positive. It's not going to be a quick project, but we're excited for the conversations taking place and the excitement surrounding it.

DHPT Officer Elections were held on 2/5/19 and the officers are:

President- Nick Pearch
Vice President- Brian Fuhrmann
Secretary- Josie Smith
Treasurer- Jeff O'Gara
We also want to remind folks who are signed up for our email updates, be sure to check your spam folder. We send out the meeting reminder or trail work day reminders via mass email, and sometimes email systems see it as "junk." If you are on our email list and seem to not receive emails, please let Josie know-

Also, if you wish to not be on the mailing list anymore, simply send Josie and email with the email address you wish to have removed.

If you would like to be added to the DHPT Mailing List or Trail Maintenance list, send Josie an email letting her know which list(s) you'd like to be added to.
Donations to DHPT are always welcome and should be sent to:
Decorah Park-Rec., DHPT

Decorah, IA 52101

Checks payable to DHPT
Another way to donate to DHPT is by joining Fearless Women of Dirt.
To become a member of FWD is a minimum donation of $20 cash or check made out to DHPT.
Membership to FWD gets you perks to several Decorah establishments: Pulpit Rock, T-Bock's, Sugar Bowl, Impact Coffee, and Decorah Bicycles.
Time Trials questions should be directed to Deke-

2019 should be an awesome year with lots of positive things in the works. DHPT thanks you for your support!
