2016 New Years Day Ride

New Years Day Ride 2016 Friday January 1st

Note: This is not the only New Years Day Ride around, nor is it the Oldest.

Is it a Tradition?  For many it certainly is.

It may be the most Fun you've ever had on a bike or it may suck, I really don't care, Go ride your bike somewhere.

The most epic hang over ride in town is closing in on us. The 2016 New Year's Day Ride to Randy's Bluffton Store. Tis' the season to make our annual homage to the birthplace of our savior, Randy's Bluffton Store. We will be meeting at 10 a.m. on Friday January 1st, for a casual ride to Bluffton, where we will eat, drink and be merry. The ride home will be even more casual as reindeer games often ensue. Be prepared to make a whole day of it, the route home can be tricky. This is the "most funnest" ride of the year.

Why not have the best ride of the year, on the first day of the year, so you have nothing left to look forward to for the rest of the year.

What: New Years Day Ride to Randy's Bluffton Store
When: Friday, January 1st 10 A.M.
Where: Decorah Bicycles parking lot, 10 A.M.
How: A Bike??????
What do I bring? Bike, Warm stuff, Money, Beer and Booze

Stay off the Trails, until they are dry. Please spread the Wisdom.

Wise words from Spinner Vivian.

"When it comes to Single Track in the Midwest, mud is the blood of winter and the trails need time to heal. Riding before they're ready pushes back recovery time for everyone.
Please consider the conditions before shredding in the Spring."

Decorah's Park and Recreation Director Thank You to DHPT Volunteers!

Hi Kirk,

Could you please pass on the following thank you to DHPT members and volunteers that DHPT helped coordinate (like Luther CC?)?  I would be happy to provide hard copies of the newsletter for your next meeting if you want or prefer.  As I prepared an annual report for the council last week I was surprised to find out that 71% of the hours logged for the Decorah Parks System was by volunteers and part time workers.  Obviously we would not be able to offer what we do without everyone’s efforts, to that we are very grateful.

DHPT volunteers,

On behalf of the Decorah Parks and Recreation Department, thank you for the trail work you have completed, the help and expertise you have provided the bike races and youth Mountain Biking program, the sponsors you have garnered to help finance the trail work as well as the planning and guidance to make a good trail system great.  We do not thank volunteers near enough and DHPT is no exception.

Attached is the first ever Decorah Parks and Recreation Newsletter, which we have dedicated  to our volunteers, sponsors and supporters.  We would like to share the newsletter with everyone that has volunteered on a project that benefits the Decorah Parks System and in turn improves the high quality of life we enjoy in Decorah.  Thank you again for your efforts!

Andy Nimrod
Decorah Parks and Recreation Director

Message from IMBA’s Michelle Barker:
Happy New Year fellow advocates and mountain bikers!

We are nearing the date of the 2015 Iowa Bicycle Summit, January 23-24 in Des Moines, IA. We will again have a 90 minute "Dirt" strand on Saturday afternoon. It is free and a great opportunity to hear the stories from advocates across the state, ask questions, build relationships, and generally spend time discussing Iowa mountain biking

I wanted to elicit some input from all of you prior to finalizing the schedule. Please take a few minutes to fill out the short and simple survey to help me to better plan our time. Also, please feel free to send this on to your other board members, advocates, riders, post on Facebook, and send to your membership lists. The more people we have in the room, the more interesting the conversations!
