A comment from Jesse
Once we go through the accomplishments of 2011, I'd like to talk about the Vision and Direction of DHPT.  We've been a pretty casual group for a long time and we've been open to just about everyone's opinion.  I think we should revisit what exactly it is we are trying to do with this organization.  Lately I've heard a lot of differing opinions about what this group is actually supposed to do.

We should go back and look at what we set out to accomplish when we started DHPT, and look at what we've  achieved and what we've missed.  Once we talk about those points, we should figure out where we go now and start planning for 2012.

8th Annual Night Shift 2011

It was a great night to chase people around it the woods on your bicycle.
And as it turns out, it was also a great night to enjoy a
barley flavored beverage under a bridge down by the river.

And it was also a great night to ride bikes through fire,
although we found out that xtracycle bags are not great at being fire proof.

The starting line.  7:10 p.m.  31 racers.
Some of the best weather and trail conditions we've ever had in 9 years of hosting the Night Shift

La Crosse had a great showing and
nearly half the field hailed from Wisconsin.

Chewey salutes the brave few
who shed their fear
and dare to ride single track
on top of bluffs in the darkness.

I thought trolls lived under bridges.  I saw an orange one.
Oh well, great awards venue none the less.

Some people believe fires exist to keep people warm.
Some people believe that fires are made to be conquered.

Some people are better at conquering than others.
Maybe it was because he wasn't used to the bike since it wasn't his own.

And this is what happens when you're not as fast as the fire.  Thanks Dave.

As always, great photography by Greg Smith of Schlick Cycles in Milwaukee.

Special Thanks to:
Deke Gosen who came up with the night shift idea 9 years ago.
To the setup crew of Ron Moffit, Jerry and Martin, Justin Kohorst.
Registration by Judy Syverson and Friends.
Schwag by Surly courtesy of Sov.
Old Millwaukee, PBR, High Life and Brats supplied by DHPT
Burgers supplied by Terry Hovden of Hovden Oil.

Maybe the highlight of my night was watching Jeff O'Gara getting his bike stolen...
by a girl that beat him up.

Hope to see everyone again next year.

Public Television Trail Clean-Up

Just one of the piles of garbage removed from the sides of the Public Television Trail by Freshmen from Decorah High School on a community service project today. Community working to keep our parks and trails great! Thanks to Deke and O'Gara for their help.

Late Congratulations to Nikki O'Gara on her win at Holzinger Hot Lap #2 last Saturday in Winona. Way to represent DHPT.
